eicó Alterior (interior/exterior grade) paint was used on this commission. eicó paints are made using 100% Acrylics so they are incredibly hard wearing and resistant to UV and weathering - which is pretty important on a job such as this.
I mixed up a series of 300ml sample pots in 12 colours - some were adjusted in store, some were straight from eicó's colour chart - which Alan then used as his palette, intermixing them on site to get the huge variation that can be seen.
Alan had always been hesitant about doing exterior works due to the weathering effect on the paints. In this case the wall was fairly sheltered in a Suffolk town and North facing, so away from direct sunlight, but eicó was suggested due to its longevity and ease of use. As it is an exterior grade paint it has an added fungicide (natural vinegar to keep VOC levels to a minimum) so it is resistant to mould and mildew growth.
Being a flat matt it gives off no reflection so does not distort the mural to the eye, and being made of 100% Acrylics, it dried very quickly and to a very tough finish.
